Our facility operators are very concerned about spectators not complying with their COVID protocols, particularly a lack of social distancing. We are at serious risk of losing spectator access to arenas. Please note that proof of vaccination does not exempt you from the health and safety practices put in place by the facilities.

I’m sorry I do not understand this. If the rink is part of the Exemption program then you should be able to run business as usual? What is happening?

Hi Michelle, if you would like specific reasoning for these restrictions please contact the facilities directly.

So let me get this straight…. We are all vaccinated, wearing masks, and they are threatening to pull spectator access still? This is absolutely laughable. How about NWW have some common sense and go to bat for everyone that has done their part. I didn’t know this was the fall of 2020.
    Just ridiculous,
    Wow.

Thanks for your comment Brian. We are in constant communication with our facilities on best practices for safety and for our members and are constantly looking for the best way to make it work for everyone.

So let me get this straight, I can go to a flames game with 19,000 other VACCINATED people, but I can barely watch my son play hockey?
    Ok makes sense…

Hi Cido, unfortunately at the moment that is the case. I believe that the Flames corp. has applied for special exemptions from the government to allow that. We unfortunately do not have control over this at the small community level.

This is incorrect. There is no “special exemption”. The Restriction Exemption Program is applied equally to all who qualify. If you actually read the document, there is a requirement for double vaccination or a negative COVID test within 72 hours and masking indoors. There is NO REQUIREMENT for physical distancing or spectators per player. This is being applied correctly in other arenas across the city but for some reason the Northwest arenas for NWW have decided to come up with their own rules which do nothing for decreasing COVID transmission in any meaningful way. In fact, these extra rules continue to harm the sport, our children, and the hockey community. It is a shame that we can’t use common sense and follow the science or guidelines as intended. I hope other parents will speak up about this as well. Enough is enough.
